Breaking off an invasive plant means only delaying its future victory over the natives for a couple years. This Japanese barberry
was cut down to the ground level last year. This year it has been catching up and did not produce fruits, though it was ready
for blooming and fruiting next year. We broke off all of its new growth again, however. Only if someone would care enough
to do this methodically within a certain area for 2-3 years in a row, such obnoxious forest weeds could be excluded.
