These seedlings look rather unusual. We found them on the power line running along Rt. 28. With leaf lobes nearly absent and
rugose (wrinkled) leaf surface, they look much like exotic evergreen oaks (Q. imbricaria). Yet chances are this is a variation of chinquapin oak. We hadn't observed chinquapin seedlings ever before, so these might
as well be normal chinquapin seedlings.
