The bark pattern is a good character that helps distinguish between different species of oak. This three-stemmed oak has
a bark pattern typical for red oak: instead of ridges, there are flat areas on the bark, separated by rather wide, shallow
furrows. The flat areas are rather long and narrow (narrow--in comparison with those of scarlet oak).
