This clone grows on a hill top in white pine / European spruce old forest with some pitch pine. The fungus that spreads its hyphae in the forest litter reaches the trees as well as the parasitic plants. It has been demonstrated with radioactive isotope markers that pine-sap plants get at least some of nutrition right from the tree roots using the fungus hyphae as pipes.
